Persian Cat Grooming: A Realistic Weekly Guide
Persians have a reputation for being high-maintenance. The truth is more reassuring: with the right coat type and a short, consistent routine, grooming takes minutes a week.
It depends on the coat
Not all Persian coats are the same:
- White Persians — thicker, more structured fur that resists mats. Brush 2–3× per week, about 5 minutes.
- Chinchilla Points — soft, balanced coats that rarely mat. 2–3× per week, about 5 minutes.
- Silver Chinchillas — finer fur that tangles more easily. 3–4× per week, 5–10 minutes.
A simple weekly routine
- Brush with a wide-tooth comb, working in sections from the skin out.
- Check the usual mat zones — behind the ears, armpits, and the “trousers” behind the back legs.
- Wipe the eyes daily with a soft, damp cloth to prevent staining.
- Trim around the rear as needed for hygiene.
The goal is bonding, not battling
Done early and gently, grooming becomes a calm ritual your cat looks forward to. We teach every family the exact tools and technique at pickup, and match you to a coat type that fits your lifestyle.
